A recently established joint venture between Fincantieri and China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) has signed a non-binding agreement to build the first vessels built in China for the Chinese cruise market.

The agreement covers two cruise vessels to be built for a cruise brand owned and operated by a joint venture between Carnival Corp, CSSC and CIC Capital, with an option for an additional two ships.

The new ships will be based on the Vista class vessels built by Fincantieri for Carnival, tailored to the requirements of the Chinese market and the new cruise brand. The first delivery is expected in 2022.

As reported, in July Fincantieri and CSSC signed a joint venture agreement for the building of cruiseships in China.
