Italy''s Gas and Heat Spa has signed a contract with Astilleros Armon Gijon ship yard to design and build the LNG cargo and fuel handling system for a 5,000 cbm LNG bunker barge. The newbuilding, the first LNG bunker barge to be built in Spain, has been ordered by Knutsen Scale Gas SL.

The keel was laid on the bunker vessel at Astilleros Armon Gijon shipyard in mid March. The vessel is slated for delivery in 2022, when it will be chartered by Shell Espana SA. The vessel is intended to serve customers in the port of Barcelona.

The bunker vessel will measure 92.75 metres in length, with a beam of 16.90m and draught of 4.25m. The vessel will be also be powered by dual-fuel LNG engines.

The scope of the contract with Gas and Heat covers the supply of both hardware and automation solution for the vessel, including an IMO type C tank, cargo pumps, bunker manifolds, a custody transfer system, and a ship-to-ship transfer system.

The gas system and two 2,500 cbm bilobe type C tanks are already under construction at Gas and Heat's facilities in Pisa, Italy.
