      Ammonia Methanol LNG BioFuel & Clean Diese Nuclear
      Using an abundant, if toxic, resource to power the maritime fleet. A mature future fuel already in use - but will it become dominant? LNG is currently the most popular lower carbon fuel, but with bio and e-LNG it could move beyond its current transition fuel status supported by extensive existing infrastructure. Numerous NGOs protested against the IMO earlier this year putting biofuels in its Global Fuel Standard, but the “fuel versus food” debate seems to have been solved by deriving fuels from waste. Technically the cleanest possible fuel source available to the maritime world and one that has the longest history, dating back to the 1950s. Why is it not in common, non-military use?

    MoU inked for dual-fuel ammonia fuelled VLCCs

    Lloyd’s Register, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and MISC via its subsidiary, AET, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development and construction of two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) which can be operated on green ammonia, a zero-emission fuel.

    The first of two LNG dual-fuelled very large crude carriers has joined the fleet of Singapore-based AET, part of Malaysian energy shipping group MISC Berhad. The Eagle Valence will commence a long-term charter to TotalEnergies in the coming weeks.

    SHELL SIGNS CHARTERS FOR 10 x LNG-FUELLED VLCCS

    Shell has signed long-term charter agreements for ten newbuild LNG-fuelled very large crude carriers (VLCC). The ten vessels will be built at DSME in South Korea, with the first vessel scheduled to enter service in 2022.
