DP World names new methanol vessel

DP World’s Marine Services business, Shipping Solutions, has named its latest methanol dual-fuel container vessel DP World London at a ceremony in Aarhus, Denmark.

The choice of Aarhus reflects the company’s maritime heritage, with Shipping Solutions originating in the Danish city in 1977 as Unifeeder before developing into a major feeder and shortsea operator.

“This is a proud moment for our Shipping Solutions team,” said Martin Gaard Christiansen, chief executive, Shipping Solutions EAM, DP World.

“Aarhus is where our story began, and it remains central to our character. This dual-fuel vessel reflects both our heritage and the future we are building.”

Now part of DP World’s integrated Marine Services portfolio, Shipping Solutions serves customers across Europe and beyond. The naming of DP World London highlights the company’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme and its focus on strengthening supply chain connectivity.

The 1,250 teu container vessel was built in China and delivered in April 2026. Owned by Germany’s Elbdeich Reederei and operated by Shipping Solutions, the Portugal-flagged vessel will serve DP World’s North Europe service.

Measuring 148 metres in length, DP World London features a modern five-cylinder main engine and exhaust gas recirculation technology designed to reduce emissions and support compliance with international environmental standards.

The vessel completed its first methanol bunkering in Rotterdam on 25 June 2026, with Unibarge acting as bunkering partner and Methanex supplying the methanol.

Ganesh Raj, global chief operating officer, Marine Services, DP World, said the vessel demonstrated the company’s commitment to practical innovation and lower-emission transport solutions. He added that it would strengthen DP World’s integrated network across ports, terminals, marine services, inland logistics and freight forwarding.

The naming follows the recent introduction of DP World Indus to the company’s coastal shipping fleet in India, underlining continued investment across key trade corridors.
