Renewable energy needs to double to supply shipping

New data from the Fuelling the Fourth Propulsion Revolution indicates that the global shipping industry will require the equivalent of the world’s entire current renewable energy demand in order to replace fossil fuel use.

IRENA expects at least half of net zero fuels traded globally to be moved by ships by 2050, necessitating an expansion in liquid hydrogen carrier capacity among others.
