Thordon expands Canadian network
Thordon Bearings has strengthened its North American presence by appointing marine engineering and naval architecture specialist SAI Engineering as an authorised distributor, expanding access to its water-lubricated bearing and seal solutions across Canada.
Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, SAI Engineering brings more than a decade of technical expertise in vessel electrification, bearing and seal installations, and retrofit projects.
The company’s naval architecture capabilities also enable it to support newbuild projects from the earliest design stages, serving customers including ferry operators, tug and fishing vessel builders, leisure craft operators and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Lara Habashy, chief executive of SAI Engineering, said the partnership builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies. “Since establishing SAI Engineering, we continue to build on our team’s previous experience working with Thordon Bearings’ products, which have been well received by shipyard clients,” she said.
“We truly believe in these products, which play a vital role in supporting both our customers and the environment.”
The agreement covers Thordon’s full portfolio, including the COMPAC propeller shaft bearing system, which uses seawater lubrication to eliminate the risk of sterntube oil pollution. SAI Engineering will also supply RiverTough propeller shaft bearings for abrasive operating environments, SXL bearings and ThorPlas-Blue polymer bearings, which enable grease-free operation of rudders and deck equipment.
The partnership reflects a shared focus on supporting more sustainable vessel operations. SAI Engineering also serves Canada’s industrial and forestry sectors, both of which are increasingly adopting environmentally responsible operating practices alongside the country’s growing shipbuilding industry.
Jason Perry, regional director for North America at Thordon Bearings, said SAI Engineering’s technical knowledge and commitment to sustainable engineering made it a natural addition to the company’s distributor network.
He said the company’s familiarity with Thordon’s products, combined with its problem-solving approach and environmental focus, would provide valuable support for customers while helping raise awareness that environmentally-friendly bearing solutions can also deliver leading performance.
