TotalEnergies launches new marine engine oil

TotalEnergies Lubmarine has launched Aurelia FE, a new trunk piston engine oil designed to help shipowners reduce fuel consumption, operating costs and vessel emissions.

The lubricant is aimed at improving energy efficiency without requiring equipment modifications, vessel downtime or changes to normal operations. Laboratory bench testing recorded fuel savings of 1.5% on a standardised IMO E3 cycle under the NOx Technical Code.

Louise Tricoire, vice-president of TotalEnergies Lubmarine, said: “Aurelia FE represents an important step forward in lubricant innovation, helping shipowners improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions without compromising engine performance and reliability.”

With fuel typically representing the largest operating expense for vessels, even modest reductions in consumption can provide significant financial benefits for operators. TotalEnergies said field testing of Aurelia FE has indicated the potential for greater savings under real operating conditions.

The company said the product can deliver immediate performance benefits without requiring modifications to propulsion systems or interrupting vessel operations. It is supported by more than 100,000 hours of service experience.

Aurelia FE has also received what TotalEnergies describes as the marine industry’s first approval from a leading global engine manufacturer for an engine oil of its kind. The approval is intended to provide additional assurance to shipowners considering the lubricant as part of their efficiency strategies.

Beyond reducing fuel expenditure, lower consumption can also reduce associated carbon dioxide emissions, supporting efforts by shipping companies to improve environmental performance while controlling operating costs.
