ADDRESSING BOXSHIP CARGO SAFETY

The growing incidence of ships losing large numbers of boxes over the side in extreme or otherwise adverse weather and sea conditions has raised public and political concerns over the safety and environmental impact of container vessels, writes David Tinsley.

The new project builds on the Lashing@Sea project, which found that safety rules needed to address the interaction between adjacent container rows and dynamic loads by hull flexibility.
