This means that both the Radar SART and the AIS-SART can be used as ‘search and rescue locating devices’ according to SOLAS Amendment in Resolution MSC.256(84) giving the ship owner freedom to choose either product as required by SOLAS Chapter III, Regulation 2.2.

SOLAS carriage requirements are two SARTs for cargo ships over 500gt and all passenger vessels, and one SART for cargo vessels 300gt to 500gt.

Jotron says that it played a pivotal role in the introduction and production of the AIS-SART – an alternative to the traditional Radar SART.
