Fuel injection unit seizure caused by coking debris

New Zealand’s Transport Accident Investigation Commission has released its final report into the engine shutdown and drift of the bulk log carrier Funing while departing Tauranga Port, 6 July 2020.

The investigation concluded that weather conditions, crew unfamiliarity with the latest low sulphur fuel oil guidance and communication shortfalls contributed to the incident.
