GE gas turbine powers new USCG cutter

Built by Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding at its Pascagoula, Mississippi, shipyard, USCGC Waesche previously completed a series of sea trials that proved successful operation of a variety of components including the CODAG system.

The newbuilding, the second in class for the USCG under its deepwater program, is 128.60m long with a 16.60m beam, and has a displacement of 4,300 tons. The CODAG propulsion system can propel the ship at speeds up to 28 knots. The LM2500 was manufactured at GE’s Evendale, Ohio, facility, and the CODAG propulsion system was provided by MTU Detroit Diesel Corporation.
