Maersk orders Solasolv sunscreens

In September, Maersk ordered 28 Solasafe roller screens for its supply ship, the Maersk Fetcher. A further two orders were made in November for a Solasafe roller screen for the container ship, the Maersk Missouri and six Solasafe sunscreens for the jack-up drill rig, the Maersk Endurer.

Paul Hopkins, sales and marketing executive, said: “We are delighted that a large and diverse owner such a Maersk continues to order Solasolv sunscreens their ships and rigs. Solasolv are proven to be of great benefit to crews when they are working in hot and sunny weather conditions.”

The roller screens, which are suitable for newbuilds and retrofits, are installed at the windows of ships, rigs and cranes and have been type approved by Lloyds, ABS and DNV.

They are claimed to offer a more comfortable working environment for crew as they reject up to 87% of the sun’s heat and up to 93% of the sun’s glare, which is said to significantly reduce eye strain and allow the crew to read computer displays more easily. The lower room temperature also means that crew are less prone to fatigue which can lead to human error.
