Output surges in China’s shipbuilding industry
The gross output of Chinas shipbuilding industry was RMB 548.4 billion in 2009, up 28.7% year on year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Growth was 31.1 percentage points slower than in 2008, said the ministry.
The shipbuilding industry’s export value was RMB 253.2 billion last year, up 17.8% from a year earlier. The growth was 38.2 percentage points slower than in the previous year.
The total export value of ships, boats and floating structures surged 44.9% year on year to $28.36 billion in 2009, while import value soared 92.5% to $2.48 billion, according to customs statistics.
