Methanol For New German Research Ship

Germany’s first methanol-fuelled, sea-going ship is set for handover next month. Built on the River Weser at the Fassmer shipyard, the 36m Uthorn will join the research vessel fleet deployed by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI)’s Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research at Bremerhaven.

Compact research platform: Uthorn will also be seen as a testbed for methanol fuel.
