Stadt power for seismic support vessels

Norwegian power specialist Stadt has supplied diesel-electric propulsion packages to six seismic support vessels (SSVs), the latest built to a Salt design (SALT 450) at Turkish shipyard Cemre for owner and operator Norfield-Vestland Offshore.

Norfield-Vestland Offshore's new 'Ocean Dolphin' is one of six new seismic support vessels powered by Stadt packages

The power plant on the vessels, five of which have already been delivered, incorporate a 690V main switchboard managing four 1,000kW Yanmar diesel generators, Stadt no-loss electric drives, AC propulsion motors driving Cat-Berg propellers, and a power management system.

Stadt reports that Faroe Islands-based Thor Offshore has ordered four similar vessels, designed by Skipsteknisk (design ST 204 CD), to be built at the Besiktas yard in Turkey. The vessels feature the same propulsion package as the new Norfield-Vestland Offshore vessels.

Stadt said in a statement: “The reliability and efficiency in the Stadt electric system has been a major reason why this solution was chosen. The ships will benefit from low fuel consumption, low emissions, and a very robust and reliable redundant propulsion arrangement.”
