As delegates attending the Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference will be aware, ammonia’s emergence as a zero-carbon fuel contender is not without its challenges.
So the opening session at the December meeting – Ammonia at Sea: Designing for Safety and Scaling Real-World Use – is well placed to provide potential solutions.
A case in point will come from speaker Thomas Boekenbrink, Business Line Manager Marine at pump specialists LEWA GmbH / Atlas Copco, who will highlight the largely unknown technological benefits of using oscillating diaphragm pumps.
In his presentation – Process Diaphragm Pumps for Alternative Marine Fuels, the beating heart of Fuel Gas Supply Systems – he will explain why the LEWA pump is more suitable for the emerging fuel gas systems compared to the better known centrifugal pumps.
With over three decades of experience in the pump sector, Boekenbrink now applies his strong technical background to developing innovative solutions for shipping’s energy transition.
Joining him in the session – which will also examine the changing role of classification societies and the critical safety frameworks required for the handling and operation of ammonia – are moderator Markus Münz, MD of VDMA Large Engines, Christian Altenhofen from GAMMA Technologies, Deltamarin Ltd’s Mika Koli, and Tor Anders Marvik and Agnieszka Sworska from Nord Gas Solutions.
The Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference is being held at the Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg, 8-10 December. For further information, or to benefit directly from the valuable practical insights and industry connections on offer, simply click here
