EU announces draft FuelEU Maritime deal

The EU Council and the EU Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the FuelEU Maritime decarbonisation initiative in the early hours of 23 March 2023. 

The agreement is expected to lead to a 2% reduction in environmental emissions produced from the EU27’s shipping sector by 2025.

The provisional agreement announced by the European Commission today retains the requirement that containerships and passenger vessels will be required to use onshore power supply (OPS) or zero-emission technologies to reduce emissions while at berth.
