MOL and SMT team up on DRI safety study

Used in electric arc and blast furnaces, DRI is feed stock for steelmaking. As the industry intensifies efforts to lower carbon emissions, there is significant interest in the use of DRI manufactured using natural gas or hydrogen as opposed to in a fossil-fuelled blast furnace.

However, the material is not without risk and the marine transportation of DRI requires specialised care to prevent overheating.

Under the memorandum of understanding signed by the parties, MOL and SMT Shipping – a leader in the movement of DRI – will work together to address the necessary measures needed to transport DRI safely.
