ME-GI engines for Hapag-Lloyd ULCS newbuilds

Six ultra-large container ship newbuildings ordered by Hapag-Lloyd will be powered by MAN B&W G95ME-GI Mk10.5 main engines, the engine designer confirmed on Tuesday 26 January. The order for the series of 23,500+-teu container vessels from Korean shipyard, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) was announced by the liner-shipping company in December 2020.

The 23,500+-teu newbuildings are destined to join the 19,900teu Barzan (pictured) on the Asia-Europe route.
