First newbuilding order for SMDERI onboard CCUS unit

The first order for an onboard carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) device developed by China’s Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI) in connection with a newbuilding project has been placed.

Meng Lingyi, General Manager of China Classification Society (CCS) Shanghai Branch, awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate to an onboard carbon capture and storage system developed by SMDERI in February 2022.
