J-Lay delivery for Saipem
One of the world’s largest crane vessels, owned by Italian engineering business Saipem, has taken delivery of the biggest component for its 120m high J-Lay tower.
The tower component was loaded on Saipem’s 125m long cargo barge 42, which when loaded, weighed 3,407 tonnes. The barge was towed from Ravenna, Italy, non-stop to offshore Burgas, Bulgaria by ocean-going tug Fairmount Expedition.
The tug also helped offload the J-Lay tower, which is used to safely install subsea rigid pipelines.
Rotterdam-based Fairmount Marine is a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation and part of Royal Boskalis Westminster.
