ABS approves nuclear containership concept

ABS has awarded approval in principle for the concept design of a nuclear-powered 15,000 teu containership, marking another step towards the potential use of small modular reactors in commercial shipping

The concept was developed through a collaboration between ABS, the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) as part of an ongoing programme assessing the technical feasibility of nuclear-powered merchant vessels.
