The Clean Arctic Alliance is calling on the International Maritime Organization to urgently adopt strong global regulations governing the discharge of scrubber wastewater from ships, warning that the current lack of international rules has led to a confusing and ineffective patchwork of regional and national bans

The Alliance said shipowners are increasingly facing inconsistent regulations as more coastal states move independently to restrict or prohibit scrubber discharges in their waters.
