Kelvin Hughes reports that its SharpEye radar was recently fitted to a Korean LNG carrier; the company says this is the first order it has received from Korea for this product.

The retrofit operation involved the 92,866 gt SK Stellar, operated by SK Shipping, which, during a drydocking in Singapore, received a Kelvin Hughes MantaDigital integrated navigation system incorporating a SharpEye S-band radar interswitched with a 25kW X-band magnetron radar. At the same time the ship’s existing ECDIS was replaced with a Kelvin Hughes unit.

In addition to providing high levels of reliability, the SharpEye solid state technology is claimed to be particularly effective in detecting small targets, especially in high levels of rain and sea clutter.
