Silverstream has joined the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping as a Mission Ambassador, strengthening industry collaboration to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency technologies across the global maritime sector.

The partnership will see Silverstream contribute engineering and operational expertise to the Center’s work, helping address technical and commercial barriers to wider implementation. The collaboration will also support the development of an evidence-based understanding of how energy efficiency can contribute to shipping’s decarbonisation.

Bo Cerup-Simonsen, chief executive of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, said: “Reaching zero in shipping will require innovative thinking and a mix of technologies and reducing the energy ships need in the first place makes every pathway to zero more achievable. We are pleased to welcome Silverstream as a Mission Ambassador and look forward to drawing on their operational experience from the global fleet.”

Silverstream specialises in air lubrication technology, which reduces friction between a vessel’s hull and the surrounding water, helping lower propulsion energy requirements and fuel consumption. The company believes improving vessel efficiency will remain essential regardless of which alternative fuels are adopted by shipowners.

Noah Silberschmidt, chief executive and founder of Silverstream, said: “Shipping’s path to net zero needs ships that use far less energy, whatever fuel they burn. As a Mission Ambassador, we look forward to sharing what we have learned from more than 160 vessel installations in service, representing a total of 19 million DWT across the world fleet, working towards a future where air lubrication and other proven energy efficiency technologies are standard in every new ship.”

The appointment highlights the growing importance of collaboration between technology developers and industry research organisations in delivering practical emissions reductions.
