Columbian shipyard delivers domestic OPV
Colombian shipyard Cotecmar has delivered a new OPV (ocean patrol vessel), the ‘ARC 20 de Julio’, and described as “the biggest and most complex ship ever built in Columbia’s history” to the Columbian Navy.
The $70million ship, first in a two-vessel class, began build in March 2009, and involved some 2,500 direct and indirect employees, with a high level of international participation. It is believed to be the first such ship to be built entirely by Columbia’s own efforts, and the design will be offered to other navies and paramilitary forces.
