Maersk orders supply ships from Chile

The reported value of the contract is some $200 million, and the newbuilds are intended to replace existing vessels operating in the Canadian offshore waters. Delivery is scheduled in February 2014 and January 2015. Duties for the new ships include anchor handling, standby, servicing of offshore installations and iceberg management.

According to Maersk, the new vessels will be designed for energy efficiency with low fuel consumption and low emissions, with optimised hulls to suit work patterns and environmental conditions. Fuel consumption is expected to be around 25% less than equivalent existing ships in the fleet.
