Samsung wins contracts for tankers and platform

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has won $630 million worth of orders to build five oil tankers and an offshore platform.

Under the tanker deal with Norway’s Viken Shipping, Samsung will deliver the 100,000 dwt shuttle tankers by 2013. These tankers will be deployed to ship oil from offshore fields in Brazil. In the other deal with an unidentified US company, Samsung is to build a tension leg platform by 2013.
