MEPC 85 is looming large over Hamburg’s annual conference

Expertise and insights will be on hand to assess the path ahead

To say that the IMO’s upcoming MEPC 85 session will be front and centre at the Propulsion & Future Fuel Conference is a statement of the obvious that barely begins to describe its possible effect on the annual gathering.

It is indicative of the potential impact of any emerging regulatory updates that the conference was shifted by a week to 8-10 December to allow for a short breathing space after MEPC, being held 30 November to 3 December in London, as well as a potential second extraordinary session of the MEPC on 4 December.

While of course aware of these landmark sessions, delegates at the Hamburg conference will be pleased that no time will be wasted on addressing any outcomes.

Immediately following the welcoming addresses, Chairman Lars Robert Pedersen, the Deputy Secretary General of BIMCO, will deliver a Keynote Address on the IMO Development Update & Mid Term Measures.

Next up he will join a Keynote Panel – Debating the Course & Decoding the Outcomes of MEPC 85 – alongside moderator Markus Münz, MD of VDMA Large Engines, Wolfram Gunterman the Director of Regulatory Affairs at Hapag-Lloyd AG, and Torsten Mundt, Senior Government Official with the Federal Ministry of Transport.

Together they will examine the IMO’s key decisions and any immediate implications for shipping decarbonisation across future fuels and propulsion technologies, including emissions regulation and commercial strategy, and explore how these outcomes will shape the priorities of shipowners, operators, technology providers and more.

If ever there was a moment in need of expert analysis and measured assessments, the opening morning of the 2026 Propulsion & Future Fuel Conference is it. Click here not to miss out.
