St Lucia and Peru ratify BWM Convention

Saint Lucia land Peru have taken the number of states ratifying IMOs Ballast Water Management Convention to 52 – representing 34.87% of world tonnage, just 1.13 points shy of the entry into force trigger.

The BWM Convention and MARPOL Annex VI were among four IMO treaties agreed to by Saint Lucia. Tafawa Williams, alternate permanent representative of Saint Lucia to IMO met with IMO’s Frederick Kenney, director of legal affairs and external relations division, to deposit the instruments of accession on the 26 May.

Ambassador of Peru to the UK, Claudio de la Puente Ribeyro, met IMO secretary general Kitack Lim at the organisation’s heaquarters in London on 10 June to hand over the instrument of accession.
