International mining company Anglo American has signed a memorandum of understanding with K Line to collaborate on research into potential decarbonisation technologies.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) has been involved in the seaborne transportation of raw materials for Anglo American. Anglo American operates mining assets in Brazil and South Africa and the company’s customers in East Asia and Europe.

As part of the agreement, “K” LINE and Anglo American have agreed to establish a working committee for collaborative research into decarbonisation. The committee will pool both parties’ knowledge of new marine technology, alternative fuels and other fields that have the potential to grow in the near future to achieve their common goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The Motorship notes that U-Ming ordered four dual-fuel Capesize vessels capable of operating on LNG from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS). The vessels are expected to be delivered throughout 2023.
