Smart design and safety considerations are fully recognised as the key components to ammonia’s adoption as a zero-carbon fuel contender, a situation that Deltamarin’s Mika Koli will address directly in the first session of the 2026 Propulsion & Future Fuel Conference.
As Sales Manager at Deltamarin, Koli works with shipowners and other industry stakeholders on future vessel projects and concepts, with a particular focus on understanding how new technologies can be integrated into practical vessel concepts, and create value for the owner throughout the vessel lifecycle.
The opening session – Ammonia at Sea: Designing for Safety and Scaling Real-World Use – is therefore a great fit for Koli and Deltamarin, with the Turku, Finland-based company having developed several innovative ship concepts and designs utilizing ammonia as a marine fuel, or featuring ammonia-ready capabilities to advance zero-emission shipping.
Among its ammonia projects Deltamarin last year unveiled a detailed concept design for an ammonia-fuelled 3,500 TEU container feeder vessel developed with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and partners like Maersk, ABS, and Lloyd’s Register.
Deltamarin has also engineered future-proof fleets like Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s Shaper Class, and Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora Class car carriers, which are built to be ammonia-ready for smooth conversion once zero-carbon fuels become widely available.
The 47th Propulsion & Future Fuel Conference is being held in Hamburg, 8-10 December 2026. Don’t want to miss out? Click here
