Lloyd’s Register has strengthened its support for maritime decarbonisation and future vessel planning with the approval of the industry’s first fully hydrogen-fuelled marine engine and the launch of a new guide designed to help shipowners navigate increasingly complex newbuild decisions

The classification society has issued the first Type Approval Certificate for a 100% hydrogen-fuelled, spark-ignited marine engine, developed by BeHydro and tested at ABC Engines’ facility in Ghent. 

At the same time, LR has launched its New Construction Guide, aimed at helping owners, operators and project teams make more informed newbuild investment decisions.
