Hoegh LNG selects Wärtsilä systems and maintenance
Norwegian LNG transport and processing company Hoegh LNG is to employ Wärtsilä engines and regasification plant on two new floating storage and regasifcation units (FSRU).
The 170,000m3 purpose-built FSRUs, which can also operate as gas carriers, are under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries. Each will be powered by four Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines.
Wärtsilä will also supply regasification systems, using seawater and glycol as the intermediate heating medium – saving space and reducing CO2 emissions compared to propane-based technologies.
Meanwhile Wärtsilä has signed a five-year technical management agreement with Hoegh, covering the new vessels and eight existing ships. The agreement includes condition-based monitoring (CBM), maintenance planning and advisory services.
Gorm Hillgaar, senior vice president fleet management, Höegh LNG, said; “Wärtsilä’s CBM service enables excellent predictability of the engines’ condition and maintenance requirements, which is of great value to our operations.”
Hoegh LNG has an option for a further three FSRUs with Samsung Heavy Industries.
