Mirrlees Drive officially opens for business at MAN Diesel in Stockport, UK
The new road that links Hazel Grove’s Bramhall Moor Lane to MAN Diesel’s new multi-million pound UK Head Office was officially opened on 18 December.
The road has been named “Mirrlees Drive” in recognition of the 101-year history the Mirrlees name has with the local area.
The opening was marked with a short ceremony hosted by Wayne Jones, recently appointed as Head of MAN Diesel’s global PrimeServ business, along with current and former employees from the Hazel Grove facility.
Father and son, Don and Andrew Foden, together with the company’s former HR and Safety Manager, Peter Wood, joined Wayne Jones to officially open Mirrlees Drive.
“I believe that less than 20 new roads are built each year within the Stockport area, so the naming of Mirrlees Drive is an important permanent landmark for the town, especially as the name chosen commemorates the longevity of one of the area’s oldest engineering companies,” said Wayne Jones, Managing Director, MAN Diesel.
Peter Wood (retired); Don Foden (retired) and Andrew Foden have, between them, over 127 years of unbroken service with the company and all three of them have only ever worked at the Stockport firm. In addition, Don and Andrew Foden, who are father and son, have at different times held the same position of Plant Engineer at the company.
Mirrlees Drive is part of MAN Diesel’s long-term site development programme, which sees the opening of a brand new Head Office facility in spring 2010. This will help take the company forward as it continues to grow its worldwide engine support business.
