Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is supplying four Cat 3516C gensets for a SV-310 multi-purpose offshore vessel for Harvey Gulf International, the first US-flagged EPA Tier 3 compliant vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.

Each 3516C generator set will provide 2,250kWe at 1800 rpm to power the ship’s diesel electric propulsion system. The engines Incorporate CleanAIR aftertreatment solutions, enabling the vessel to qualify as United States EPA Tier 4 compliant in addition to meeting the EPA Tier 3 and IMO II regulations, along with electronic fuel injection and Adem A4 electronic control units. The high-speed 3516C is of V16 format with 170mm bore, 215mm stroke and 78.08 litre displacement.

The SV – 310  is a 92m multi-purpose construction and supply vessel currently being built at Eastern shipyard for New Orleans-based Harvey Gulf, which provides the deepwater Gulf of Mexico with environmentally-friendly offshore supply vessels.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Harvey Gulf to provide sustainable power solutions for their Gulf of Mexico operations,” said John Shock, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems sales manager. “Caterpillar was able to create a factory-supported, design-to-order package for Harvey Gulf that will afford the vessel increased operational flexibility in highly-regulated waters.”

“We are pleased to partner with Caterpillar to be able to deliver the first United States-flagged deepwater construction vessel to the market,” Shane Guidry, Harvey Gulf International CEO commented. “The Harvey Deep Sea is capable of deploying 100 tons to water depths of 3,000m at a deck hook-height of 129ft while simultaneously delivering 18,000 barrels of liquid mud, 10,500 ft3 of cement, 1,700 barrels of methanol and 4,000 tons of deck cargo.”

Louisiana Cat led Caterpillar sales and service efforts on the project. Noted Bob Tournet, marine sales manager for Louisiana Cat, “We are committed to helping our customers operating in the Gulf of Mexico enhance their operations in a sustainable manner whenever possible. We look forward to working with Harvey Gulf to provide around-the-clock support for the custom Cat power solutions.”
