Angola is to receive a pair of Damen FISV 6210 vessels

Damen Shipyards Galati has launched the ‘Ngola Kiluange’, a fishery inspection surveillance vessel (FISV) 6210, for the Angolan Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries.

With another two ships under construction, the Angolan government is set to strengthen its knowledge of and control over its rich fishing grounds.

The 62m Nngola Kiluange is designed as a multipurpose vessel. Another vessel of the same type is currently under construction at the Galati Shipyard, as is a smaller, 28 m long fishery research vessel (to Damen FRV 2810 design), also commissioned by the Angolan Ministry. The order is supported through a collaborative venture comparising Damen Shipyards, the Dutch Government and ING Bank, with finance through the Dutch Government and ING.

The fishing sector is economically important for Angola, and its territorial waters attract considerable illegal fishing. Under a SADC regional programme the country collaborates with Namibia and South Africa to protect and survey the fishing grounds. The FISV Ngola Kiluange can be brought into action for salvaging and various other jobs.

Under the contract, Damen Shipyards Cape Town will provide delivery of spare parts, alongside training and education, and special vessel maintenance programmes.
