Whale Technologies will deal with Hydrex's underwater repair contracts

Belgian underwater repair specialist, Hydrex, has appointed a UK agent as part of its expanding network “to keep up with demand”.

UK based technology company, Whale Technologies, will handle with Hydrex’s underwater repair contracts and Ecospeed hull coating, for which Hydrex expects to see an increase in demand as the hull coatings market moves away from biocidal anti fouling.

Bill Page, managing director, Whale Technologies, told The Motorship: "We have been extremely impressed with the Ecospeed product and the benefits it offers the industry. Not only does this surface coating last the life of the vessel, but it increases the hull efficiency. Reductions in fuel consumptions that have been achieved have been very significant on various types of ship, from the largest container ships to cruise ships and ferries."

The companies say the new partnership will enable them to offer Hydrex’s fast response, ‘go-anywhere’ repairs to propellers, rudders, thrusters, seals and damaged hulls.

Whale Technologies will also supply new and old build coatings with the fuel efficient Ecospeed glass flake system.

"We believe that the potential for helping UK marine interests to reduce their operating costs and work with cleaner ships is enormous, so for Whale it represents another opportunity to fulfil our aims," Mr Page added.

Whale Technologies, which is based in the Huddersfield University Innovation Centre, specialises in condition monitoring, energy efficiency, failure analysis and training.
