Large car carrier ordered by NOCC

01 Apr 2011

Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has placed an order with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for a large car carrier newbuilding for delivery in August 2012.

The ship will have a capacity of about 6,500 car equivalent units (CEU), and the order value is estimated at about NOK 385 million. The contract includes an option for second ship, to  be declared by 30 June 2011.

The ship will have a 150 ton ramp capacity and four hoistable cargo decks, giving it the capability to transport commercial vehicles and ‘high and heavy’ cargo as well as cars. It will be designed for fuel efficiency, and the engines will meet all current and future emission limits. NOCC says it selected HHI as one of the most experienced builders of large car carriers with a recognised modern design and high construction quality.

"NOCC is pleased to have concluded a contract for delivery of a high quality car carrier at an attractive price and with an early delivery date. The car carrier market is expected to strengthen considerably over the next few years, and this investment is expected to contribute positively to NOCC's net profit as from delivery, " CEO Lars Solbakken said in a comment.
