New guide to ballast water management
Fathom, a provider of market intelligence products and services for the marine and energy industries, has launched ‘Ballast Water: The Guide’ - covering the ballast water management market, said to be worth some $30 billion.
Written by Peter Lockley, an independent consultant on environmental issues within shipping, with support from ABS, the publication details regulatory requirements, ballast water management options, evaluation criteria for treatment systems and a company directory. Fathom claims the guide is a complete tool to support ship owners, operators, management companies, shipyards and other stakeholders in making crucial decisions on ballast water treatment and management.
Lockley commented: “Before the IMO’s Ballast Water Convention becomes enforceable in 2016 an estimated 68,000 vessels will be required to install treatment systems in what has been described as a $30 billion market over the next ten years. With that many decisions being made by ship owners The Guide provides the full ‘A to Z’ of what you need to know about ballast water management.
“Ballast Water: The Guide provides a complete resource for ship owners on the regulations, what is expected of them, and the technologies available to give them the tools to assess which is the right solution for their vessels – with some surprising outcomes. We’re also delighted to have had the support of ABS in making this the most comprehensive and authoritative decision-making aid for those at the hard end of ballast water management.”
