Cryo AB will supply LNG fuel tanks and handling equipment to the new Tallink fast ferry due for delivery in 2017.

Meyer Turku shipyard has ordered a high-power LNG fuel tank and gas handling system from Cryo AB, to be installed on a next-generation high-speed ferry under construction for Tallink Grupp.

The system consists of two 300 m³ horizontal vacuum insulated C-type tanks with associated gas handling and control systems, including Cryo’s new high-power LNG vaporisers.

Lars Persson, managing director of Cryo, said: “With this project, Tallink and the marine industry take an important step to contributing to a green Baltic Sea. Furthermore, it allows us to introduce our newly developed high-power LNG fuel gas system designed to meet the future needs of large ro-pax vessels”.

The ferry will operate in the Baltic Sea between Helsinki and Tallinn. An innovative hull form will help the ferry achieve an increased service speed of 27 knots, as well as bringing significant improvements in energy efficiency. The ship has a capacity of 2,850 passengers and will be delivered at the beginning of 2017.
