New European head for ClassNK
ClassNK has officially announced the appointment of Dr M. Abdul Rahim to the role of regional manager in charge of the Society’s European and African operations.
He replaces Tetsuya Kinoshita, who has taken on the role of overseeing ClassNK’s strategic development as the general manager of the ClassNK planning department in Tokyo. ClassNK chairman and president Noboru Ueda said that the new appointment represented one part of ClassNK’s ongoing efforts to provide even better service to the maritime industry in Europe and Africa, saying that “Dr Rahim’s impressive ability and his excellent work ethic made him an excellent candidate to promote to the position.”
Rahim is an 18 year veteran of ClassNK, having joined the classification society shortly after his receiving his Doctorate in Naval Architecture from Japan’s Hiroshima University in 1993. Since joining ClassNK, Rahim has served in numerous positions, including carrying out plan approval work in the hull department in Tokyo, conducting advanced R&D work at the society’s research institute, and serving as a surveyor at the Singapore Office. Rahim joined the London Office in 2004, where he was promoted to manager in 2005 and deputy general manager in 2010, before taking up his current position.
