Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has taken another major step forward as a full service conversion group with what it calls the first EPC Redeployment Upgrade Contract to be carried out in Europe.

In all, the Teekay managed FPSO Petrojarl I, which arrived at DSR in January 2015 for preliminary works, will spend a year at the yard before heading off for operations at the Atlanta field in Brazil.

The upgrade project will include modifications to the vessel’s hull, but it will also include conversion of the process systems (including the separation train and produced water topsides) and integration ensuring Brazilian compliance.

To achieve such a comprehensive upgrade, DSR has formed partnerships with the equipment supplier Frames BV and marine engineer Nevesbu BV. Frames is carrying out the design and fabrication of the new Topside Skids, while Nevesbu is responsible for the marine and topside integration engineering.

The contract is being managed by DSC’s Offshore & Conversion task force team. By taking on full responsibility for the upgrade, DSR was able to offer Teekay a turnkey package with regards to safety, quality, budget and delivery.

This project is important to DSR because as well as forming valuable new partnerships, it has also used the contract to develop a professional project team tailored to the needs of the oil and gas industry.

The sector is subject to extremely high HSEQ requirements and the Petrojarl I upgrade together with previous projects including the Gryphon A FPSO, has helped establish DSR as a serious contender for more work in the field.
