Touch control for Alfa Laval boilers
Marine technology supplier Alfa Laval is rolling out touch screen control technology for its range of Aalborg boilers, starting with OL and OC-TCi products.
The graphical touchscreen display with two-touch navigation will become the common control platform for all Alfa Laval Aalborg boilers. It can already be found aboard a range of newbuilds, the supplier said, and additional deliveries are underway.
“Our boilers themselves have always been at the cutting edge,” said John Pedersen, manager boilers and heaters, Alfa Laval. “With touch control, we take the same lead in steering them.”
The same control system has already been proven in engine rooms on other Alfa Laval equipment. It is also used at the Alfa Laval Test & Training Centre, where it controls the centre’s own boilers and aids the continuous development and optimisation of systems for new boiler types.
The system offers a complete view of the plant and easy access to all functions, allowing crews to make better decisions on boiler use. Features including integrated manuals and user-defined trend pages assist these decisions.
Alfa Laval Touch Control is PLC-based, offering ease of installation and durability. It can be used with all major bus interfaces to connect to onboard communication systems. The system can be quickly retrofitted to an existing boiler, and Alfa Laval noted that retrofits had already been performed on several tanker vessels.
