CMB.TECH wins first orders for marine DF hydrogen-fuelled gensets

CMB.TECH, the Belgium-based engine developer, has announced that it has received the first order for the world’s first dual-fuel hydrogen gensets for marine applications. The engines will be built in collaboration with Netherlands-based engine builder DBR, which will be responsible for the construction and delivery of the dual-fuel hydrogen gensets.

CMB.TECH will provides the hydrogen technology, including the necessary components. The collaboration represents a concrete steps towards the decarbonisation of the maritime industry. DBR offers its expertise in reliable energy solutions for marine and offshore applications, and CMB.TECH focuses specifically on designing and building large marine and industrial applications that run on hydrogen or green ammonia.

The first order for the new H2-fuelled gensets has been placed by Damen Shipyards. Damen has ordered 3 x hydrogen gensets that will be operated on Windcat’s new CSOVs. The first vessel is already under construction at Damen Shipyards and the first dual fuel hydrogen genset will be installed in a separate engine room in the first quarter of 2024.
