MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. (MES) has announced that it will supply a methanol-fuelled Mitsui-MAN B&W 80-bore engine to a series of vessels on order at Japanese shipyard Tsuneishi. The order represents the first domestic reference for a Mitsui-MAN B&W G80ME-LGIM engine from a Japanese-owned shipyard.

The scope of supply comprises of 4 × Mitsui-MAN B&W 6G80ME-C10.5-LGIM engines, along with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) units. MAN ES licensee MES noted that the new order extended its orders for methanol-fuelled engines from Tsuneishi to ten, including six units of the G50ME-C9.6-LGIM.

The order has been placed by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in connection with an order for a series of 4 x 5,900 teu type container feeders. The shipowner behind the order was not identified. Tsuneishi confirmed that the vessels would also be equipped with dual-fuel gensets capable of operating on methanol as fuel, noting that the vessels will feature HiMSEN 8H32DF-LM engines, which will be supplied by HD Hyundai.
