Using an abundant, if toxic, resource to power the maritime fleet. A mature future fuel already in use - but will it become dominant? LNG is currently the most popular lower carbon fuel, but with bio and e-LNG it could move beyond its current transition fuel status supported by extensive existing infrastructure. Numerous NGOs protested against the IMO earlier this year putting biofuels in its Global Fuel Standard, but the “fuel versus food” debate seems to have been solved by deriving fuels from waste. PSV ESS retrofit drives fuel savings
Atlantic Towing has marked a significant achievement in its environmental efforts with the successful retrofit of its platform supply vessel (PSV), equipped with Vard Electro’s SeaQ energy storage system
The upgrade on board Atlantic Shrike has resulted in an 11% fuel savings across all operations and a substantial reduction in CO₂ emissions.
Vard Electro, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri-owned Vard Group, delivered a full SeaQ ESS retrofit package, seamlessly integrating with Atlantic Shrike’s existing power systems.
