ClassNK has issued an approval in principle for the design of a liquefied CO2 carrier intended to serve a floating offshore injection facility, marking further progress in Japan’s carbon capture and storage ambitions

The vessel is designed to operate in conjunction with the ‘Socket SPAR’ unit, a floating structure planned for offshore CO2 injection in deep-water environments.
