ClassNK launches CO2 transport research

A CWR grant will help finance a single-vessel retrofit with a bundle of proven technologies

ClassNK and the National Maritime Research Institute have launched a joint research project to evaluate corrosion rates in liquefied carbon dioxide cargo tanks under low-temperature and low-pressure conditions, supporting the safe expansion of carbon capture transport by sea

The initiative aims to establish a technical foundation for assessing corrosion risks associated with transporting liquefied CO2, with findings expected to improve both the safety and economic efficiency of carbon capture, utilisation and storage projects.
