Using an abundant, if toxic, resource to power the maritime fleet. A mature future fuel already in use - but will it become dominant? LNG is currently the most popular lower carbon fuel, but with bio and e-LNG it could move beyond its current transition fuel status supported by extensive existing infrastructure. Numerous NGOs protested against the IMO earlier this year putting biofuels in its Global Fuel Standard, but the “fuel versus food” debate seems to have been solved by deriving fuels from waste. Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference 2025

Remote DP pilot project launches
Kongsberg Maritime, Solstad, Østensjø, DeepOcean and Remota are teaming up to explore the use of remote dynamic positioning operations in the offshore sector
Set to begin later this year aboard Solstad’s Normand Sentinel, the trial aims to demonstrate how DP operations can be conducted from shore, expanding operational flexibility while opening doors to a broader and more diverse recruitment pool.
The project’s first phase will involve two offshore vessels – Normand Sentinel and Østensjø’s Edda Freya.
